Fire Restrictions at Hat Creek

BEST of LIFT 2020 CANCELLED

BOL 2019

After much thought and consideration, the HCPA have made the difficult decision to not host The Best Of Lift Fly-In 2020. We are in unprecedented times and feel it is our responsibility and utmost duty to consider the safety of pilots and spectators. As we are unable to ensure social distancing and avoid mass gathering potentially associated risks, we are respecting the recommendations of the CDC, the Governor’s orders, and our local county’s recommendations.

We would like to thank you all who have attended in years past to help make this, our one and only fundraiser for Hat Creek Rim, a success. Your support and donations have helped with road maintenance, site insurance, and the many improvements we have accomplished over the years. To our team of volunteers, officers, and family who have made this a successful event every year…we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As we enter into some of the best and most consistent flying of the season, we hope to see you in the air. Stay safe, fly high, and as always…Best of Lift.

P.S. Yes, we will still be making t-shirts this year. 😉
*If you are already planning on being at The Rim that weekend, please B.Y.O.B (bring your own BBQ). There will be no club sponsored dinner provided.

Easter Flying

Easter weekend produced at least 2 great glass offs and is hopefully what we are going to see for the rest of the season. Saturday Dennis and I launched around 5.30 had fantastic flights and had a couple of hopefully future pilots help us on launch, and drive the truck down.

Sunday I was the only one to enjoy the same conditions. The reservoirs are full and everything is so green.  LZ 1 still has a lot of water and Burney mountain has a lot of snow still.

Spring Flying

3 PG,s and 2 HG's headed out to Hat Creek Sunday.  The day looked exciting and it was. First PG off  Troy was only just staying above launch with the occasional sinking a little below the rim. 2 more PG's took off Nate and Sonny just as Troy was starting to climb just south of launch. By the time I was suited up and ready the wind had picked up and all 3 PG's were climbing out. I launched and caught a ratty strong thermal just in front of launch which was rough and drifting fast to the SE. Now being able to see the virga that was just to the north of us I headed out to LZ2. After an uneventful landing Sonny and Nate landed in LZ2. Troy landed out.  Dennis the 2nd HG did not get off as the winds started to blow down on launch. Thanks to Nate for the pictures.
